09-07-09: Valve wants Left 4 Dead DLC to be Free (See why Xbox Players will Pay) |
|
Valve is releasing an expansion pack called Crash Course. The DLC
will include Survival and Versus mode. But biggest change will come to
the game’s campaign. Crash Course will “bridges the gap between the
end of the ‘No Mercy’ campaign and the beginning of ‘Death Toll’ in the
original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new
dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale.”
However
if you own a 360 this expansion is going to cost you 560 Microsoft
points ($7). And if you play the game on the PC it’s free via Steam.
Now why is this the case? Why is it free on one platform and not the
other? In a statement, Chet Faliszek said it’s not Valve's decision:
“We own our platform, Steam. Microsoft owns their platform. They wanted to make sure there’s an economy of value there. It’s
not like we’re [Valve is] looking at this as, ‘Oh my god, we need some
money, we’re going to charge,’ obviously, or we’d do it on the PC. So
it’s just kind of the way the system works right now.”
